January is Sydney’s hottest month with an average daily maximum temperature of 25.8 °C (78.4 °F).

Summer lifestyle and culture:

Sydney really comes alive as summer brings with it long, hot days and the calendar of festival, music and cultural events picks up.

A summer in Sydney means days at the beach, beers with friends around the barbecue, long lunches in restaurants, outdoor cinema watching, cool drinks on the veranda at the end of hot working days and picnics in any of Sydney’s many parklands such as Centennial Park in the Eastern Suburbs, the Royal National Park a short drive south or indeed any of the parklands peppered throughout and around Sydney.

Sydneysiders love the outdoors and there are venues for sporting activities all year round: soccer in the Domain in the city centre and cricket matches to be watched at The Sydney Cricket Ground. Avid cyclists ride along Sydney’s coastal roads early in the morning and joggers bound along Sydney’s vast foreshore morning and night.

Cuisine:

The diversity of Sydney’s people is reflected in the delicious range of international cuisines that Sydney has to offer. There are centres for Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese, Turkish and Italian cuisine. Sydney also has a sensational sense of gourmet all of its own and an abundance of quality fresh produce.  Sophisticated Modern Australian restaurants are situated throughout the city and inner-city suburbs of Sydney.

Culture:

There are many venues where you can enjoy Sydney’s arts and music scene including the famous Sydney Opera House on Sydney Harbour, the Sydney Theatre Company which is currently under the direction of Cate Blanchett and Andrew Upton and the City Recital Hall. All are located in the city centre.

Transport:

You can make your way around Sydney on bus, train or ferry. Most Sydneysiders travel to and from work by car.
